What a great day out at Llandow and brilliant weather! It’s the first sprint I’ve been to at Llandow where rain didn’t feature in nearly 10 years. We’re now half way through the season.
Congratulations to Andrew, James and Tom on their podium finishes. Thanks to those performances, we have a new championship leader in the shape of Andrew O’Malley. Behind the top 3, there were battles down the field; Richard and Nick for 4th/5th, whilst there wasn’t a gap between anyone else. The championship scores are now on the club website:
Next up is our AutoSolo, which has moved from Chepstow to Westonzoyland, but retains the date on 9th July. Once regs are available, I’ll send them on. That will be followed up a week later by the Clay Pigeon Sprint on 16th July and then just two weeks later the Dick Mayo Sprint at Castle Combe Circuit on 29th July.
I hope you’re all now entered for Llandow on 13th May. If not, enter here PDQ:
If you’re new to Llandow (or an old hand) and want to get a few laps of practice in, then several competitors are heading down on Friday 12th May for a few cheeky practice laps! If you fancy joining in, then you can book in on 01446 796460 for £100 for a 3 hour session (or £150 if you’ve got enough fuel for all day). Most are aiming for a ~11:00 start with a 1 hour lunch break, finishing ~15:00.
Entries are now being accepted for the Llandow Sprint on Saturday 13th May. Regulations are attached with an entry form at the bottom. Online entries will open in the next couple of days at www.bristolmc.org.uk – please ensure you enter class MX as a Bristol Motor Club member.
If you’ve still not entered the first round at Castle Combe, you really need to do this now. We have just a handful of entries left. You can enter online here:
We’ve today managed to secure a venue for the next AutoSolo, so there will definitely be at least 7 rounds this year. More details once we’ve got more concrete information.
We had a good turnout at Combe and a good battle too. Well done to Louis on his first win and lowering the class record. You can see the current standings on the club website, but remember that only 6 rounds count, so things will change later in the year:
Entries are still open for Kemble in two weeks (let me know if you need entry forms) and also for Llandow in May, which you can enter online:
One of the marshals pointed out that some people yesterday didn’t carry on after a spin. I don’t know if it was any of us, but just in case you don’t know, if you spin/crash and you’re sure your car is not dropping bits/fluid, then please head back to the pits under your own steam. Checking mirrors as you rejoin, of course, but the next car should have been red flagged by the time it gets to you, so unless they’ve missed the flags, you won’t have anyone approaching at racing speed.
There wasn’t a great entry at the RosSolo on Sunday, so Rich leads from Richard! The points table is now on the club website:
There’s a dozen of you this weekend, so we should see some good battles! Don’t forget you need…
A timing strut fitted
Your racing licence and club card
A sticker showing the off position of the key – a marker pen and silver gaffer tape works well.
Some yellow tape on the battery earth lead.
Numbers on the side of your car (same number all season as in the entry list). We’re not providing the magnetic backing we did last year, so you’ll need to ensure you’ve got a background with numbers on. If you get stuck for numbers, black tape will get you through if Merlin are out of stock. This might be suitable background and can be delivered Friday on Prime:
Race suit, gloves and helmet to the right standard
With the demise of Chepstow, we’ve been offered a replacement AutoSolo by Ross & District Motor Club. The down side is it’s less than 4 weeks away but the plus side is it’s only £30. You can enter Class D online now:
I know a few of you may have missed out on getting an entry to the Great Western Sprint, so this should help you get the requisite number of events in for the championship.
Unfortunately, we’ve lost the use of our Chepstow venue for AutoSolos and that means we’ve had to cancel the March AutoSolo. We’ve tried to find an alternative venue, but it’s too late for us to put on an AutoSolo of reasonable quality. We’ll have something by the time the Summer event comes around though as there are several on the boil.
This means the championship is down to just 7 rounds and 6 of them will count towards the championship. There’s still time to enter the Great Western Sprint if you’ve not done so already.
Don’t forget that you will need a racing licence, helmet, suit and gloves to compete. You’ll also need to fit a timing strut to the car and affix numbers when you are allocated them.
Entries for round 2 of the Vincenzo & Son Bristol MX5 Challenge are now open. Don’t worry, entries for round 1 are not open yet (long story) and the regs (attached) are still provisional as we’re waiting for confirmation from the MSA. You can enter online (class A5) or download a postal entry form here:
Don’t forget that you will also need the following:
