MX5 Challenge website

Bristol Motor Club is very excited to announce our new website to promote the Vincenzo and Sons Bristol MX5 Challenge.

The website is the new portal for all news, information, events and media.  As we progress through the year, the website will be the main source of results, event reviews and exciting promotions including discounts from sponsors and supporters.

For new and existing competitors, you’ll receive notification of event entries when they become available so you can secure entries to the rounds.

2018 Westonzoyland Autosolo entries open

Entries are open for the Westonzoyland Autosolo on May 26th.  I have attached both entry forms (should any current non-competitors wish to take part) but for current MX5 Challenge competitors, please take note of the following:

  • Use the NatB application form
  • Enter class 5B

Any non-challenge people are more than welcome to enter, of course.  It’s pretty cheap to enter and it’s a great day out to skid your car around!

Look forward to seeing you there

2018 Llandow Sprint entries open

Entries are open for the Llandow sprint, you can enter by letter (how quaint!) or online here.

When entering, remember to enter ‘MX5’ in the class box as we have our own arrangements for the MX5 challenge.  Let’s hope that this event is as popular as the Great Western Sprint (massively over-subscribed).

We do also need Marshalls for the event so if you fancy coming along, speaking to other MX5 owners about the championship and generally enjoying a day of motorsport then we’d love to have the help. Bridge toll is paid for if you come across from England.

2018 Start of the season

Hope you’re all ready for the 2018, whether you’re competing or just spectating?

For 2018, we’ve managed to secure an extra venue, Manor Farm Hillclimb, which we hope will provide something different for the final two rounds of the season.  It’s a two-day event of a weekend so here’s hoping it’s a sociable event as I’m sure many will be camping.  From what we’ve seen, it’s not a daunting hill and should ease people nicely into hillclimbs.

The events have been published here but it looks like we’ve lost the Wessex Sprint (another new venue).  Not to worry, we still have a full season of 4x Sprints, 4x Autosolos and 2x Hillclimbs.  Remember, this meansthat 7 rounds count!

The championship regulations have been approved by the MSA and are published on the Club Website so please remind yourselves of the rules, although they haven’t changed from last year. I’m more than happy to answer any questions or give guidance on getting started

2017 Champions!

After a season-long battle, Andrew O’Malley came out on top overall with James Hurford winning Class A.  They will both pick up their trophies at the awards day in February. Well done and thank you to all who took part this year.  I’m stepping down from running the championship but I’m leaving you in the safe hands of Andrew O’Malley, who’s moving on to pastures new for 2018.  He’ll no doubt be sending a message about changes for 2018 very soon…

2017 Westonzoyland AutoSolo Results

Our new venue at Westonzoyland seemed to be an instant hit with competitors and it’s another different winner in the series.  This time, James took his first championship round win with a dominant display, winning each of the four tests. Richard Glindon put in a great effort to finish second and Paul Sunshine took the last step of the podium in his Mk3.  Championship leader, Andrew O’Malley, was only able to manage 4th and that means he now shares points with Richard Glindon. Rich Welsh, Andrew Thompson, Paul St George and Phil finished 5th-8th.

It’s tied at the top of the championship with James a few points behind.  We have a good entry for Clay Pigeon this Sunday, so let’s see who’s on top at the end of the day.  Rich Welsh isn’t far behind the top 3 and Tom Caldecourt has put in a last minute entry for Sunday that could see him up top when dropped scores are taken into account.

2017 Kemble Autosolo 2

I hope you’re all ready for Westonzoyland on Sunday.  Entries are now open for the final round of the championship at Kemble Airfield next month.  Do get your entry in soon as it’s a round of several championships and there’s only 6 weeks or so left.

For the avoidance of doubt, if I am competing at an event, I am ineligible for the championship.  Points will be allocated as if I am not there, should I be placed in the same class. For example, if I were to finish third, then the fourth placed finisher would be allocated points for third place, the fifth would get points for fourth, etc.

2017 Westonzoyland Autosolo

URGENT: If you’re planning to enter the Dick Mayo Sprint (round 7) on 29th July, read the rest of this message after you’ve entered class F1 online!  There’s not many places left…

Now we’ve got that out of the way, entries are now open for round 5, the Westonzoyland AutoSolo on 9th July.  You should enter the Nat B event in class 5B.

We’ve also got entries open for round 6 of the challenge at Clay Pigeon Raceway on 16th July.  You should enter class F2; regs and entry form are attached.

2017 Dick Mayo Sprint

It’s time to enter the penultimate round of the championship!  Yes, I realise there’s two rounds before that, but with the late change of venue for the AutoSolo, we’ve not got the entries open for that one yet and I’ve been told Clay entries will open shortly.  The Dick Mayo Sprint is nearly 15% full by the time I’ve got this message out and entries only opened 2 hours ago, so make sure you enter early…
